Kevin Costner Co-Founded App HearHere Announces Strategic Rebrand to Autio

HearHere, the mobile audio entertainment app founded by Kevin Costner, today announced its rebranding to Auto. Autio will continue to offer location-based storytelling, as the company doubles down on its mission: audio for travel. In addition to the Autio rebrand, the company is partnering with motha world-renowned storytelling nonprofit, to donate $1 from every Autio subscription purchased to fund storytelling workshops, resources, and to provide a stage for people of all backgrounds to share their experiences.

Autio offers an extensive audio library of over 9,000 short stories across the United States with narrations from household names such as Kevin Costner, John Lithgow, Phil Jackson and more. While many users listen to the stories on road trips, many more use the app on planes, on walks, and even while traveling virtually from home. With the company’s rebranding, Autio’s central goal is to optimize discovery by providing users with limitless ways to enjoy audio for travel.

Academy Award-winning actor, director, and filmmaker Kevin Costner signed on to join Autio (formerly HearHere) as a co-founder in August 2020 to present invigorating and abundant stories about America’s unspoiled history. Spearheading innovation in the traveltech platform, Costner plays a key role in expanding the app’s new content.

How Auto works:

  • Users download the application (available in the App store) and open an account.
  • Users can access the curated audio story collection once logged in (free accounts come with (5) stories, while paid $36/year accounts come with unlimited access).
  • Once users have enabled location access, they are ready to explore nearby stories. Once integrated into the app, they can reveal a hidden environment with entertaining stories based on GPS location.
  • When not traveling, users can still access the American Stories Map and toggle to choose content based on their interests.
