Dharmendra Pradhan launches SCALE app for skills development in the leather sector
New Delhi: Union Education and Skills Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today launched the SCALE (Skill Certification Assessment for Leather Employees) app which provides a one-stop solution for skills, learning, assessment and employment needs of the leather industry, during a visit to CSIR -Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai. Leather Skill Sector Council has developed the SCALE Android app to change the way skills development programs are designed and delivered to trainees in the leather industry. The SCALE studio app developed by Leather SSC allows people of all ages interested in leather crafting to access online courses streamed live from the state-of-the-art studio in his office.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pradhan said that the leather sector plays a major role in creating large-scale jobs in the country, with more than 44 lakh people currently employed. He praised the role of CSIR-CLRI for playing an important role in the development of this sector with a perfect blend of academics and skills development.
Shri Pradhan also spoke about the changes taking place in the sector due to the advent of digital technologies and environmentally friendly techniques, and said that this requires a new impetus on skills, reskilling and upskilling and capacity building. He said that NSDC and CSIR-CLRI will work together to meet the skills needs of this sector and suggested that a national level capacity building program be organized at CSIR-CLRI to increase the capacity of professionals working in that sector. He also said that the Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship, NSDC, CLRI and the Leather Industry Skills Council will collaborate to set up a joint facility and skills center across India, including Chennai.
Shri Pradhan called on young professionals in this sector to leverage technology, innovation and entrepreneurship to become job creators. They must seize artisans to connect them to the opportunities available in the digital space, including e-commerce, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Murugan said that Tamil Nadu is full of talented human resources and CLRI plays a major role in training them. CLRI also promotes youth entrepreneurship and helps create many start-up companies. This will achieve our national goals during the ongoing Amrit Kaal leading to 100 years of Indian independence, he added.
