Driven by objects with meaning and their connection to people, multidisciplinary design studio Industrial Craft opened its first-ever storefront in San Francisco today. More than 100 brands are represented, from traditional designers to emerging talents, and each item – whether it’s Jasper Morrison’s wall clock or UAU Project’s 3D printed vases and Los Senderos del Rio tableware Bec) emphasizes the tactile and sensory experience. Additionally, Industrial Craft has placed part of their workshop in this multi-story setup in the Mission district so visitors can observe their creative process.

“As an industrial designer, I think about how people will interact with the physical world around them,” Max Burton, founder of Industrial Craft, told COOL HUNTING. “It could be on the latest IoT product like a smartwatch or something less complex but equally important like a teapot.” This translates directly into Industrial Craft’s vision for the store: “I like to make people’s interactions with the physical designed world joyful and rewarding. With so many of our daily experiences in the digital medium, I wanted to create space for tactile engagement with the world. »

Having the workshop on site contributes to both the sight and the feel – it imbues the space with thoughtful excitement. “To make great products, you need a space that facilitates physical creation,” says Burton. “Every day my creative team comes together to be creative. We start with sketches on paper, then move to the studio to create physical models to test proportions and feel in the hands. The studio was designed to facilitate the creation of physical objects and spaces.

“I was excited about the idea of ​​merging a design boutique with a design studio,” he continues. On the ground floor, visitors enter the Industrial Craft store. There, a “workshop serves as a bridge between the workshop and the store”, he explains further, where “customers can see my creative team making models and prototypes. I want to break down the barriers between designer, maker and client. The rest of Industrial Craft’s studio is on the second floor, where the creative team designs “products for corporate clients and products for the store.”

“I think today people are interested in how an object is born,” says Burton. “Who had the idea and how did it come about? What are the materials and manufacturing processes? Everything that happens before a product reaches the store. We intentionally expose our creative process and encourage a conversation between designers and the public. I think people will be drawn to the creative process, not just the final product. That’s a really nice touch, but so is the carefully stocked inventory, from exclusive American designers and products like glassware by Baku Takahishi or the 1959 Static Clock by Richard Sapper de Lorenz.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Craft & Design (IICD) Jaipur is going to conclude the registration process for IICD 2022 today, 21st March. Only candidates who have successfully completed the IICD application form before 4:00 p.m. today will be allowed to participate in the IICD entrance examination. 2022. Candidates who have not yet registered for the IICD 2022 exam can find the direct link on the official website – iicd.ac.in. In order to complete the registration process for IICD 2022, applicants are required to pay an application fee of Rs. 1500.

Steps to complete IICD Application Form 2022

Filing the IICD application form is quite simple; candidates must follow the procedure and have in hand the required documents and proof of identity. Here is a step by step procedure to complete the IICD 2022 registration form.

Step 1: Visit the official website of IICD Jaipur – iicd.ac.in.

2nd step: Next, find and click on the “Admission 2022 Registration Form” button in the middle of the screen.

Step 3: Then fill in the basic information such as name, a valid email id, a password of your choice and a captcha. After entering the details, click on the Submit button.

SYDNEY, NS – The Cape Breton Craft and Design Center has launched a new art exhibit featuring works reflecting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The exhibition Growth and Transitions: A Pandemic Perspective features the works of Teena Marie Fancey, Susan Paddon, Victoria Piersig and Juliana Scherzer and is now on display in the center loft.

“The actual unveiling of this exhibit has had to pander to the vagaries of the pandemic and its restrictions, just like all of us,” Fancey said. “The artwork was created for this project over a 12 month period by individual artists working in isolation during the first and second waves of a global pandemic. Looking at the artwork created for this exhibition reminds me of everything how far we’ve come and how long it seems we’ve been staying put.”

The exhibition is the result of the Cape Breton-Unamaʼki Creative Sector Legacy Project launched in the spring of 2020 to employ multidisciplinary artists to create works documenting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The center said the aim of the program was also to encourage continued community engagement with arts and culture during the pandemic.

“Being a professional artist often means living in insecurity, and I and my fellow artists in this exhibition are no exception,” said fine art photographer Victoria Piersig. “This exhibition has been postponed twice. While hanging the work, I marveled at how my perception of our work changed seeing it finally come together in one place. An absolute pleasure. The digital world has been a good stopgap, but as the pandemic has taught us all, it does not replace reality.

The exhibition will be on view until March 19.

Norwegian studio Strand Craft Design, based in Florida, has unveiled its latest concept; the 160m sailing superyacht Florida.

Strand, which places renewable energy sources at the center of the design, called the concept the “superyacht of the future”. The key to this is the “space age technology” wing masts.

Constructed of carbon fiber, these three masts deploy 80m high wing sails covered with solar panels, which automatically tilt to catch the sun and allow the yacht to operate in “solar sail” mode in conditions of weak wind.

In windier conditions, the yacht takes full advantage of its sails while producing electrical power from solar panels which are stored in the battery bank and used for the production of hydrogen on board.

The yacht is also fitted with hydroelectric generators, which generate electricity when the yacht is under sail. In wind and sunless conditions the yacht can run on hydrogen fuel cells and is also equipped with a backup Genset system.

According to the designer, the yacht will produce more power than it consumes under ideal weather conditions.

Elsewhere, Florida is packed with high-end superyacht features, including a helipad on the foredeck, a pool in the back, and a beach club on the lower deck. The garage is large enough to store a selection of dinghies, including an amphibious and submersible dinghy, and a selection of all-terrain vehicles, jet skis and water toys.

The “Florida Keys style” interior design continues the eco-design theme, with interior floors and carpentry constructed from reclaimed wood, vegan leather, and furniture made from recycled plastics.

The Cox Powertrain CXO 300 diesel outboard successfully achieved EPA Level 3 approval for commercial and recreational applications earlier this year.

The new landing craft will be powered by four of the Cox engines, with a combined total power of 1,200 hp. Maneuverability will be enhanced by a 35 HP bow thruster. The vessel’s electrical needs will be met by two 39 kW Northern Lights generator sets.

With a service speed of 10 knots, the landing craft will have a free working deck area of ​​2,150 square feet and a maximum deck load of 400 pounds per square foot. Capable of carrying a maximum cargo of 200,000 pounds on deck, it will be fitted with a hydraulic bow ramp of 14 feet by 13 feet.

Over 3,000 entrepreneurs from 56 countries participated in ClimateLaunchpad 2020. This year’s global climate competition took place online from September 30 to October 2.

The winner, Cassetex, is a solar powered battery exchange service for electric 3-wheelers in Bangladesh. The team hopes to transform more than a million vehicles and save 0.47 megatonnes of CO2 per year. “Being among the best start-ups in the world is a tremendous recognition for Cassetex and Bangladesh. The transport sector is one of the biggest contributors to climate change and one of the most difficult sectors to bring about change. We are touched by this award and hope it will help us address critical challenges in the transportation sector in Bangladesh, ”said Gopal Kumar Mohoto, Co-Founder and CTO of Cassetex.

The second prize goes to Sosei, from Uruguay, a company that provides tailor-made solutions to help farmers and agribusinesses get started in regenerative agriculture while maximizing profits and minimizing risk. These are the finned air speed anemometer and hot wire anemometer, which use small fans in response to the air flow and resistive elements to cool the air, respectively. Throughout the industry, anemometers are used for a multitude of tests and airflow adjustments in general ventilation systems in workspaces, monitoring the speed of airflow in cabins sprayers, hoods, clean rooms and laminar flow workstations. They are also used to measure flow through large filters and cooling or heating coils used in industrial processes. Anemometers are widely used in the scientific community and find use in meteorological measurement and analysis, in environmental studies, and for research. The most common use of these devices is during installation and maintenance of HVAC systems, where they are used for balancing and measuring airflow, and troubleshooting.

In the calibration of anemometers, a wind tunnel is very easy to use and does not require any special knowledge. The test chamber is often configured to accept specific models and the airflow is pre-calibrated against a NIST standard. Common uses include product design and development, R&D projects, and academic experiments. The test chamber can accommodate custom mounting devices and instruments. It also includes the ability to measure temperature, humidity and barometric pressure. Laboratory grade blowers have much wider flow ranges than calibration blowers – 25 to 9,000 fpm (feet per minute) versus 500 to 3,000 fpm. In addition, the flow rates are continuously variable and are not preset, as they are located in a calibration blower. The lowest flow rates are achieved using specially designed restrictive plates that reduce air while maintaining high uniformity and low turbulence.

The most recent application to the surface of these compact air circulation devices is in everyday engineering design, as well as in thermal evaluation of electrical and electronic components. This includes active devices such as circuit boards and powered components, and passive devices such as heat sinks and heat exchangers.

On the surface, these devices are a far cry from the familiar designs used for studies and calibration of airflow. As you can see from the example on the left, unlike its traditional counterparts, the airflow chamber is the largest part of the unit. The fans can be individually controlled and draw air through the honeycomb filter to suppress turbulence and produce an even flow. The unit under test is suspended in the air chamber on a universal and adjustable mounting bracket that can accept a wide range of test objects. There are several openings in the test chamber that allow other instruments, such as sensors and anemometers. The air flow is continuously variable so that different test conditions can be used and temperature profile measurements made.
